The NMPED’s Professional Licensure Bureau determines qualifications for and issues licenses to teachers, administrators and other instructional personnel. They also provide technical assistance to individuals seeking licensure and to local school officials who must hire licensed staff.

Alternative Licensure via Educator Prep Program

Are you aspiring to become a teacher, but your Bachelor's Degree isn't in education? An Alternative Licensure Program might be the ideal solution for you. Explore the NM Approved Alternative Licensure Programs listed below for further details.

Requirements: 

  • Official Sealed Transcripts reflecting a Bachelor's Degree
  • Letter of acceptance into an approved program

Out-of-State Reciprocity

If you hold a valid teaching license from another state or country, you may be eligible to reciprocate your license. Please visit NMPED to apply for or reciprocate a license.
